The History of The Tutwiler Hotel
Two beautiful buildings opened in 1914. The original Tutwiler Hotel, and the Ridgely Apartments. The Tutwiler would fall to the wrecking ball in 1974 and 12 years later would be resurrected in the Ridgely building.

Miss America and Miss Alabama hosted over 250 people at the hotel on April 20th, 2013. The Tutwiler is a proud sponsor of Miss Alabama and was the site of first Miss Alabama Pageant in 1921.
The Tutwiler Serves as Filming Location for Upcoming “42″
The Tutwiler was a filming location for the upcoming movie about the life of Jackie Robinson. Last summer, “42″ filmed a scene featuring lead actor Chadwick Boseman at the hotel. The film will be released on April 12, 2013.
Medal of Honor Recipient and Retired Colonel Visits Hotel
Medal of Honor Recipient and Retired United States Air Force Colonel stayed at The Tutwiler during his visit to Birmingham. Colonel Thorsness was a guest General Manager Robert Radice during his stay.
